The tour will be managed by Roger Carroll who is a long standing Fingletoad, a past-member of the Auckland University Cricket Club and experienced manager. Peter McDermott and his wife, Dianne will be travelling with the team as assistants to Roger.

Peter’s background includes being a past player at Collegians in Wellington and at the Auckland University Cricket Club, involvement in cricket administration and a manager of Golden Oldies Cricket.

South Africa and in particular Cape Town is the favourite destination for all three of us having visited and played several times previously. it is a fascinating country and we have thoroughly enjoyed the experiences and the people we have met each time.

We are once again utilising the services of Cape Town based Chris Brothers to arrange and co-ordinate our internal travel in South Africa. Nothing is too much trouble for Chris and his experienced team. Should you decide to add on the Victoria Falls excursion it will be done directly with Chris.

THE CRICKET To ensure everyone gets a sufficient number of games, the tour is limited to 15 players and is open to players over the age of 45. Opposition will depend on the make up of our team but is planned to be against Over 50 to 55 teams. Should our age bracket be a little higher, our host clubs will be advised accordingly.

Umpires, supporters, partners and family all welcomed. There is no limit on the numbers of supporters or umpires.

Attendance at fixtures is optional and planning has taken account of activities for non-cricketers on playing days.

Fingletoads March 2026 Western Province Tour Itinerary

• 15th March: Flight from Johannesburg to Meet and greet at George Airport and transfer to our luxury 38-seater air-conditioned coach. Drive to Knysna (an hour) for 3 nights stay at Protea Hotel Knynsa Quays Lagoon facing rooms on B&B basis.

• 16th March: Leisure day - optional golf available at Pezula Golf Club or Game Reserve day visits Botlierskop (an hour and a half coach drive) or Gondwana (also an hour and a half coach drive). Pezula Championship Course is undoubtedly one of the world’s most beautiful 18 holes. (10 to 15 minute drive). With sweeping ocean and lagoon views, a round at Pezula is both a sporting and visual experience. As a Top 20 South African ranked course, Pezula’s championship design offers a challenge for the seasoned golfer while still being the perfect day out for any skill level.

  Plenty to do in Knysna- a very pleasant town.

• 17th March: Fixture v Knysna Cavaliers Cricket Club with tea and after-match meal.

• 18th March: Drive to Franschhoek (approximately 6 hours included stops) for 4 nights stay at Protea Hotel Franschhoek on B&B basis. Franschhoek is one of the most beautiful wine villages in the world and stands out as the premier wine and food region of South Africa. Tourism, wine and food plays a leading role in the history and future of Franschhoek.

  Franschhoek means 'French Corner' in Afrikaans as the area was named after the French Huguenots who were early settlers and whose influence is still apparent.

• 19th March: Fixture v Groot Drakenstein Cricket Club (approximately 20 minutes from Franschhoek) with tea and after-match meal.

• 20th March: Leisure Day - golf available eg Pearl Valley Golf Club (20 minute drive) or the Franschhoek wine tram. Pearl Valley’s Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course forms part of the greater Val de Vie Estate, recognised as one of the top residential estates in Africa. The majestic Simonsberg and Drakenstein mountains provide a backdrop for the acclaimed course.

• 21st March: Fixture v Scorpions Cricket Club, Stellenbosch (approximately 30 minute drive) with tea and after-match meal.

• 22nd March: Drive to Cape Town (an hour and a half) for 7nights at Southern Sun The Cullinan Hotel on B&B basis.

  Southern Sun The Cullinan is a premier hospitality destination offering grand hotel accommodation in the heart of Cape Town just moments from the Waterfront. Located in one of Cape Town’s most sought after areas, within easy reach of the renowned Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the Cape Town International Convention Centre, Long Street and other popular landmarks.

• 23rd March: Fixture v Bellville Cricket Club with tea and after-match meal.

• 24th March: Leisure Day - golf available at Steenberg Golf Club or a selection of sightseeing options including Table Mountain, Robben Island, Cape of Good Hope, Aquila Private Game Reserve or Cape Peninsular.

  Located in the beautiful Constantia Valley, with the spectacular icon of Table Mountain as its backdrop, Steenberg Estate is a must-visit destination with a must-play golf course.

• 25th March: Fixture v Claremont Cricket Club, Constantia with tea and after-match meal.

• 26th March: Leisure Day with golf available at Clovelly Golf Glub, a tight par 72 with a testing mix of interesting holes and elevated greens accompanied by beautiful views of Silvermine River and lakes. If golf is not for you the optional tours as above are available or maybe a day at the excellent V&A Waterfront. Located in the heart of the city, the V&A offers a unique variety of dining, shopping and entertainment options.

• 27th March: Fixture v Western Province Cricket Club with tea and after- match meals.

• 28th March: Leisure Day with golf available at Rondebosch Golf Club Golf. Located in the shadow of Table Mountain it is a parkland layout characterised by tree-lined fairways, smallish greens, more than 40 bunkers and two rivers – the Black River and Vygekraal River – that meander through the bottom half the course or Cape Point excursion or another day to do final tours, explore the V&A or just enjoy Cape Town and its environs.

  End of Tour Team dinner in the evening - drinks not included.

• 29th March: Transfer from the Cullinan to Cape Town Airport for return home or further touring.

Our host organiser is Chris Brothers an ex-pat Englishman well settled in Cape Town, married to a lovely South African lady. Chris is well-connected amongst cricketers in Western Province and is a particularly good friend to Roger and Dianne and me.
